Once I left Mom's house I went to Cape Girardeau, Mo to visit a friend of mine, Pennie Pflueger, from college I had not seen in 20 years. Pennie and Paul welcomed me into their home and we had a great couple of days hanging out and catching up on old times and new. We went to St. Louis one day to go sightseeing and visited several very cool sites, including the Gateway Arch (a must see, it's very impressive and the ride to the top is a blast), and the Missouri Botanical Garden (older botanical garden west of the Mississippi, founded in 1859 and sits on 79 acres). We also hit a second stop that was featured on Feasting on Asphalt; Ted Drewes Frozen Custard (a Route 66 attraction and home of the concrete, a custard whipped so thick you can't shake it out of the cup). We had an absolutely great time, with the only downside being I had to leave a day early to miss some really nasty weather that was moving across the state. I'm looking forward to going back to this area; there's a lot of things to see and do there. |
