John got back in town Saturday night and we started to hatch some ideas around what to do with our visit. What did we do, you ask? Well, the first day we decided to do some sightseeing and went out to Snoqualmie Falls (in a car, we thought we'd look kinda funny 2-up on the bike). The falls were beautiful, and we were about to head back towards town when we found a map of the area with backroads, rivers, falls, etc., called out on it. So we picked out a few roads and headed out on an exploration through the Cascade Mountains. We went through a number of neat little towns, followed rivers and streams, hiked in to some falls, visited a Bavarian-style village (Leavenworth, WA), and even got to see salmon running in a river! We drove around 300 miles on this whim and got to see and experience some of the most gorgeous country I've ever seen. You could just pull off the road in a turnout, hike down to a river or stream and be stunned by the scenery. The Cascades are an impressive range and hold a lot of things to see and do. If you're ever up there grab a map, pick a road and/or a trail, and just go explore. You won't be disappointed. |
